As the number of eatery options along Bridge Street has increased - including those open late into the night or all night - the stiffer competition for customer dining out dollars has forced one longtime Chillicothe restaurant to close its doors.
Monday, J.R. Valentine's family restaurant closed its doors for good because of a lack of business, according to the chain's corporate office in Blufton. The restaurant has been serving meals to local residents under its present name for more than 20 years.
The business formerly known as the L-K Restaurant was purchased by John Roberts and Management Corp. in 1985 and became J.R. Valentine's. During the change, the restaurant underwent a facelift and renovations. The company operates 13 J.R.Valentine's family restaurants, including one nearby in Jackson.
