VietNamNet Bridge – Chef Sakal and his counterpart in the Chinese restaurant nestled in the Sofitel Plaza Saigon are rolling up their sleeves to make moon cakes on the occasion of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival or Tet Trung Thu.
The chefs are working together to create the seasonal delicacy of moon cakes, with ingredients including egg yolks and yam white lotus mixed with BBQ chicken, or the creative raspberry cheese fillings.
The hotel says the combination of two hotel chefs, a skillful Chinese and a touch of French flair, have made the brand name Sofitel moon cakes known among Vietnamese and expatriates who purchase the cakes as gifts for corporate clients, family members and friends.
The hotel's moon cakes will be on sale at the Gourmand Shop till late September. The cakes are priced at US$10 for a box of two cakes, and US$19 for a box of four.
For more information, contact the hotel at 17 Le Duan Blvd, Dist. 1, HCMC.
* During this festive season the Amara Saigon Hotel will launch a charity program called 'Together Amara Making a Charitable Moon-Cake Festival' for fundraising, as a way to share as well as to bring happiness to unprivileged children.
This is part of the hotel's community-oriented activities. All profits collected will be transferred to children of Tam Thon Hiep Open House in the HCMC's outskirt district of Can Gio.
"Mid Autumn Festival is a day for family reunions and friends to get-together. While we are enjoying ourselves, we should not forget those less fortunate. Amara Saigon would like to take this opportunity to share our joy with them," said Kathy Fong, the hotel's director of sales and marketing.
She said the hotel will donate 100% of the profit from selling the cakes to help unprivileged children in the center.
The moon cakes are priced at US$20.90 net for a box of four cakes and US$13.90 for a box of two.
