The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology and the Korea National Museum of Folk are jointly presenting the "Mid autumn 2007: Cultural day of Vietnam-Korea" which will be celebrated from September 21 to September 23, 2007 at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology.
There will be numerous activities inside the Trong Dong building and a display area outside. Of special interest is the exhibition of customs and performances traditionally observed in mid autumn in both Korea and Vietnam, including making Korean moon cakes and many folk games.
There is also a museum education program, for children and adults, exploring the similarities and differences of mid autumn festivals in Vietnam and Korea. The Korean mid autumn exhibition will be celebrated until December 2007.
In order to prepare for this program, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is offering training classes for volunteers from August 18 to September 16. Classes to be held every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 12pm and again from 2pm to 4pm.
The organizing committee has chosen more than 200 Korean and Vietnamese youth of different ages from many universities and high schools in Hanoi.
The criteria for being chosen for this training class were based on communication skills, being good students, interested in museums and able to speak a foreign language, especially Korean.
Volunteers will learn how to skip rope, walk on stilts, fly a kite, spin a spinning top and some traditional folk games. They will also learn how to make folk toys such as mid autumn lanterns, how to make toys from leaves and masks, and some Korean games like toho, yut, gangangulle dance and more.
Through the training class god volunteer program, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology wants the students and pupils to discover their hidden abilities, while at the same time improving their communication skills and cultural knowledge.
