Comedian Susan Dale is biracial and proud of it.

¡°I¡¯m part redneck and part white trash,¡± she says with a laugh.

When she says trash, don¡¯t worry too much. She¡¯s clean.

¡°A clean family show is a challenge,¡± she said.

But people love her for it.

She was invited to emcee and perform in the upcoming Branson Comedy Festival over Labor Day weekend, she said.

It¡¯s a clean comedy festival, she said.

¡°Finally, someone standing up for this. This is huge, I¡¯m not joking,¡± she said.

And just how did she land that suh-weet job?

¡°It¡¯s always the same. People tell me, ¡®Gee, Susan, you¡¯re almost famous! You¡¯d be perfect for this gig,¡¯ ¡± she said. ¡°Almost famous? Well, I¡¯m almost broke, too.¡±

But things are looking up for Dale.

First, there¡¯s that Branson thing.

Second, there¡¯s ¡°My Life in the Frying Pan,¡± a sitcom pilot she¡¯s working on. She¡¯s invited writers in California to help her fi nish the script, which she expects to be ready in about two weeks.

¡°It¡¯s about a mom moving in with her biracial daughter,¡± she said.

And by biracial, she means ... yep.

¡°It¡¯s getting a lot of attention nationally, and we all have family like this, don¡¯t we? I know I do,¡± she said.

It¡¯s a show she wants fi lmed in her home state of Oklahoma, too.

¡°Have you heard about the huge tax rebates they¡¯ve just passed for fi lming in this state?¡± she asks.

¡°If the investors are from here, it¡¯ll be fi lmed here, and it¡¯ll cost bunches less than in L.A. and cheaper than in Texas.¡±

Also, several actors have already said they¡¯d join the cast.

¡°Thea Vidal¡¯s committed to a small part,¡± Dale said.

¡°She¡¯s huge! And she¡¯s huge!¡± she joked of the plus-size actress, who costarred in the 2006 movie ¡°Repos¡± and does work with the WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment, among other things.

Getting the pilot deal inked could take anywhere from four weeks to four years, she said.

¡°If it takes, it goes fast,¡± she said. ¡°I¡¯m really hopeful about it.¡±

Third, there¡¯s a full-length drama she¡¯s written. She¡¯s looking for a producer and fi nanciers who are willing to commit to Oklahoma, as well.

¡°I believe in this state and in the Midwest. I¡¯ll fi ght to have it here,¡± she said.

¡°I want to bring Oklahomans home ¡ª there are so many Okies working out in California right now, it¡¯s unbelievable. They¡¯re on the ¡®Tonight Show,¡¯ the ¡®Ellen Show,¡¯ they¡¯re everywhere. Everyone I¡¯ve talked to is into this idea.¡±

And, look for Dale on the television stand-up circuit as well.

She was a fi nalist for ¡°Shelarious,¡± a comedy competition show for the Oxygen network.

She also competed for a slot on NBC¡¯s ¡°Last Comic Standing,¡± and was featured as one of the ¡°funniest videos of the week¡± on the show¡¯s Web site.

In April, she was also one of 100 fi nalists in a ¡°California¡¯s Funniest Female¡± contest.

Indeed, that ¡°almost famous¡± thing she has going seems to be going somewhere bigger, she said.

She¡¯s hopeful but realistic.

¡°Yeah, it could certainly happen soon,¡± she said. ¡°In the meantime, I¡¯m still waiting tables.¡±
